A challan is an official document issued by the traffic police in case they found someone breaking the traffic rules and regulations. If a challan is released against a person, he/she is liable to pay a penalty depending on the type of violation.
The fines usually remain the same for every state, however, the government has the authority to alter it. If the challan is issued using the Electronic Challan System, then it is named as an e-challan.
