E-learning: Pro and cons
Dues to coronavirus outbreak education system in a world suddenly collapsed. Many institute adopted e-learning as way of escape from this collapse but it has its own pro and cons. New technology always give some benefits and easy solutions to problems but it comes with some disadvantages and risks. Lets see how e-learning can affect students and studies.
Pros of e-learning
- Helps to continue studies
World is looking at E-learning System as solution for lockdowned education process. Students can continue on their studies. Many college and schools are obtaining this system.
Flexibility of time is unique feature of e-learning. Students can learn as per their conviniance. E-learning can give freedom to students, they can prepare timetable of their study.
- Cost saving
E-learning is cost saving technology. E-learning helps to an educational institutes to reduce costs. It needs very less infrastructure. You don’t need to build classrooms, benches, playgrounds to run a education institute.
- Offers education opportunity to all
E-learning offers education to all. people who are working or unable to attend physical Class room can learn through e-learning system.

Cons of e-learning
e-learning offers many benefits but on other hand it also has some disadvantages. We are considering situations in developing countries like India while writing this article. We have to take look at both advantage and disadvantages while choosing e-learning.
- Screen addiction
E-learning system bound students to be in front of screen for long time. If kids stays Infront of screen for long time they can become screen addicted. Screen addiction can lead to many other medical and psychological issues.
- One way process
E-learning is one way process. In classroom teacher and students have great interaction. In e-learning students only listens, they can’t ask teacher or discuss anything with their friends. This is a great obstacle in learning process
- Isolation effects grows
E-learning cuts social activities and students get away from interaction, entertainment, and memories with friends. They usually get depressed by sitting in front of screen lonely. Feeling of loneliness and feeling of being restricted grows and it leads psychological issues.
- Not suitable for all
Developing countries like India we can not consider that everyone have internet connection, smartphone and computers. Many areas still face issues in network. Due to unequal financial conditions, we cannot expect all people have all equipments.
- It affects employment
Growing e-learning system rather than the tredtional way will affect employment. It will decrease need of teaching as well as non teaching staff. It will also affect many indirect employment opportunities that comes with a tredtional education institute.
After looking at pros and cons, we can consider e-learning as good technology but it needs some changes. We need to have great and equal level of development in an infrastructure.
E-learning has its own unique benefits but it cant take place of traditional education system. E-learning must be used as additional way for delivery of education. We have to think about screen addiction and age of students who opt e-learning.
